Pat Dougherty, Living in Creative Spirit
This week we welcome Patrick Dougherty to our interview platform here on “Living in Creative Spirit.”
- By day, I am a (CPA) certified public accountant and by night I am a CPA (creative playful artist).
- I was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up in Overland Park, KS.
- I attended KU & Rockhurst College and majored in accounting and have an MBA in finance.
- I formerly owned a home remodeling company.
- I am married to my best friend, Julie Connor.
- I have four children.
- I do not have formal art training.
- I love nature and observing the small things around me.

If you were a super hero what would your name and super power be?
My name would still be Pat Dougherty (like Underdog – humble and loveable) and I would have the eyes of a hawk.
What role does spirituality play in your creative work?
Meditation frees my mind from all outside distractions and self-doubt & judgement which allows creativity to enter.
What is your favorite creative outlet?
I enjoy making things with my hands. I create paper and wire sculptures. I like to paint (particular oils).
What inspires your creative work?
I observe the small things around me.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about maintaining my sense of humor and adventure.
Do you have a daily spiritual practice?
Gratitude & Acceptance
How do you move through creative blocks?
Sometimes it takes a wrecking ball, dynamite and a bulldozer to clear the wreckage when I experience a creative block. Meditation seems to work best though.
How do you inspire the Creative Spirit in others through your work?
I try to make my art playful.
What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on oil paintings and paper sculptures.
What tip would you give readers to help them nurture their Creative Spirit?
Let go of judgement, become one with your art, and get lost in the creative experience.
